Ursuline College Athletic Hall of Fame
Known as the visionary of the Ursuline College Athletic Program, Sister Diana Stano was the driving force behind the creation of the Ursuline College Athletic Department in 1999. Sister Diana quickly embraced athletics and has come to appreciate athleticism, competition and sportsmanship as characteristics of a complete student.
In her vision, Sister Diana understood that athletics would not just bring us student-athletes, but would change the campus environment. “Ursuline College as always had an extremely strong academic reputation of which we are very proud,” said Sister Diana. “When we began athletics, the notion was to allow our women students the opportunity to participate in sports to assist in their growth as whole persons by providing the discipline and development of their athletic skill as well as advance their character formation.”
From 2002-2009, Sister Diana served as the Region IX Representative on the NAIA’s Counsel of Presidents. Starting in 2003, she was a part of the Executive Committee of the American Mideast Conference, and the NAIA also asked her to serve on the Administrative Committee.
“We truly want to represent what it means to be a student-athlete,” said Sister Diana. “We want to be recognized as a strong athletic institution where students succeed not just in the classroom, but on the fields, the courts, the track, in the pool, or wherever they happen to compete. We want to be known as strong competitors wherever we find ourselves.”
