Ursuline College Track & Field student-athlete,
Alaysia Brooks, has been awarded the NCAA Division II 50
th Anniversary Scholarship. Brooks is one of 46 student-athletes across all of NCAA DII to receive this scholarship.
On the 50th year anniversary of NCAA Division II, institutions had the opportunity to nominate student-athletes who exemplify the division's 'Life in the Balance' philosophy through high-level athletics competition, academic achievement, campus involvement and community engagement. The Ursuline College athletic department nominated their NCAA Champion and All-American,
Alaysia Brooks.
Aside from her athletic accomplishments, Alaysia shines in the community. Every week she participates in a focus group to discuss preeminent issues throughout both our community and the college campus. Alaysia also has spent time volunteering at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Hannah's Home women's shelter, local nursing homes, and more. She was a guest speaker at her high school alma mater's Hall of Fame ceremony and also spoke on the high school's college recruiting information panel.
Academically, Brooks is a three time dean's list student and was a member of the Emerging Leaders program in 2022.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference was the first step to the review process upon nomination for this award. The G-MAC was able to select four finalists from member schools to submit for review by the Division II Management Council Identity Subcommittee. The subcommittee reviewed 196 nominations for the commemorative scholarship and determined the recipients, one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete from each of the 23 Division II conferences.
"Congratulations to these deserving student-athletes who exhibit the core values of Division II," said Terri Steeb Gronau, Vice President of Division II.
"It was important while celebrating the history of Division II that we also recognize and celebrate our student-athlete leaders in a meaningful way."
The recipients were recognized during the opening ceremonies at the
Division II Festival on Monday in Orlando, Florida.
