Softball goes 6-1 in Myrtle Beach over Spring Break

The Arrows traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week over the school's spring break vacation, and came home winning six of seven games. In the team's only loss, Ursuline fell to Rio Grande 1-0 in the bottom of the last inning. Wins included a 23-0 win over New Rochelle, as well as shutout win (10-0) over Bay Path.

Ursuline played two games on day one, winning 10-0 over Bay Path and then 6-4 over Rio Grande. On day two, the Arrows won a pair of games over Hilbert (6-4) and Baptist Bible (7-3). Day three extended the win streak to six-straight with wins over Bay Path (9-1) and the 23-0 win over New Rochelle. On the final day of the trip, the Arrows finally lost, falling to Rio Grande, 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh.

Over the seven games, three players recorded a team-high eight hits - Megan Passwaiter, Natalie Huggins, and Samantha Roberts. As a team, they hit .389 (72-185), led by Michele Hare, who each hit .538 (7-13) in six games. Passwaiter had a team-high nine runs batted in, while Lauren Grana, Briana Mlady, Huggins, and Roberts each scored seven times.

In nine plate appearances, Kelly Williamson recorded two walks and three hits, scoring five times. On the bases, Roberts went 6-7 on stolen base attempts, and Grana was a perfect 6-6. As a team, the Arrows were 25-28 in stolen base attempts, while giving up only three stolen bases in five attempts.

Cierra Griffin recorded four hits and a walk in nine plate appearances (.556 on-base percentage), scoring four runs and driving in three. Elizabeth Maher and Nicole Schierbaum each had a team-high three doubles, while Schierbaum drove in seven and scored five on only four total hits.

As for the pitching staff, they combined to pitch 42 and a third innings, giving up just 11 earned runs (13 total runs). They struck out 56 batters and walked only 21 over the seven games. Brittany Schnarrs had 24 strikeouts and six walks, while Ciara Seymour had 21 strikeouts and only eight walks. Schierbaum pitched five scoreless innings in her only win of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out eight.

Ursuline will look to continue the early success, opening up its home schedule on Tuesday, March 20 against Lake Erie and Wednesday, March 21 against Wheeling Jesuit.
