Softball Clinches Spot in G-MAC Postseason Tournament

The Arrow's softball team finished their regular season play this weekend, going 2-2 against Thomas More University (9-15) and Kentucky Wesleyan (2-22) to clinch a 7th seed ranking in the G-MAC postseason tournament. The Arrows will compete starting on Wednesday, April 29th at 2:00 PM. The Arrows will face off the #2 seed, Ohio Dominican in Akron, OH. Find the full bracket and more about the post season tournament here.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • The first three innings for each team were scoreless. Both teams struggled to find the gaps with each team only having five hits each for the entire game.  

  • TMU scored two runs in the fourth inning from a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly to center field.  

  • The Arrows almost came back in the seventh inning when they scored one run but could not tie the game to force extra innings. Abby Haydu doubled to right field to bring home Kendall Crytzer.

  • Runs/Hits/Errors: Arrows – 1/5/1, Saints – 2/5/1 

  • Runners left on base: Arrows – 5, Saints – 5 

  • Losing Pitcher: Macy Searles 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K 

  • Winning Pitcher: Alisha Fox 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K 


GAME ONE TOP PERFORMERS: 

  • Abby Haydu had an RBI double going 1 for 3 against the Saints.  



GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • The Arrows were the first on the scoreboard after an error by the Saints allowing Holly Earl to score. They scored another run from an RBI groundout from Abby Haydu for Heidi Earl to score.  

  • Thomas More came within tying distance in the second inning when a player hit a homerun to make the score, 2-1. 

  • The Saints tried to work their way back into the game but fell short after a double to right field to end the game in favor of the Arrows, 5-2.

  • Runners left on base: Arrows – 8 Saints – 5

GAME TWO TOP PERFORMERS:

  • Destiny Ruggiero went 2 for 3 with a homerun, single, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored.  

  • Heidi Earl went 4 for 4, hitting 2 doubles, and scoring 2 runs.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Kentucky Wesleyan was the first to score in the second inning from a single to left field.  

  • Heidi Earl did not like the score, so she tripled down the left field line to bring home Holly Earl to tie up the game. Nicole Brant-Badillo singled up the middle to get the second run of the inning. Hannah Rudd singled to center field to bring home Brant-Badillo to eventually retire the inning, 3-1. 

  • The Panthers came back hot in the next inning to tie the score at three apiece from two singles.  

  • Ursuline pulled ahead in the sixth inning from a single to center field from Casey Barton, allowing Hannah Rudd to score.  

  • The Arrows gained two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning from Destiny Ruggiero when she hit a 2-run homerun to center field.

GAME ONE TOP PERFORMERS: 

  • Hannah Rudd went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  

  • Heidi Earl had 1 triple, 1 single, 1 run, and 1 RBI. 



GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Holly Earl allowed the Arrows to get their first run in the first inning from a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Ivanney Ramirez.  

  • The Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the second inning after they singled up the middle.  

  • The Panthers went through their whole batting lineup in the fourth inning when they scored four runs. The Arrows had three errors in the inning to allow the Panthers to get ahead.  

  • KWC gained two more insurance runs in the sixth inning after two RBI singles.  

  • The Arrows came close to forcing the bottom of the seventh inning when Destiny Ruggiero hit a 2-run homerun to make the score, 8-5.
