PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – After a tornado traveling at 110 miles per hour struck Pepper Pike on July 20th, severe damage was done to the Ursuline College campus.

The storm caused an external wall of the Matthew J. O'Brien Athletic Center to collapse and destroyed part of the roof. It also damaged several other buildings, including the Dauby Science Center and the Ralph M. Besse Library. Many trees were uprooted or destroyed and other campus facilities had minor damage.

Below are updates as they relate to the athletic department:

  • Due to the damage, the College is forced to close the athletic facility - including the pool and fitness center - until further notice. The fitness center will occupy the space that used to be Daley Dining Hall and should be up and running by September 1st.

  • Of the 13 basketball games that were scheduled to be played at home during the 2013-14 season, 10 will be played at John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center (1 John Carroll Blvd., University Heights, Ohio 44118). Two more games (Nov. 13 against Tiffin and Feb. 6 against Ohio Valley) will be played at Case Western Reserve University's Horsburgh Gymnasium (2138 Adelbert Road - Cleveland, Ohio 44106). A court has yet to be secured for the Kentucky Wesleyan game on Jan. 23. Please check the basketball schedule page to see the most updated schedule with time and venue changes.

  • All lacrosse, soccer and softball contests that are scheduled to be hosted at Ursuline College this year will go on as originally planned.

  • Items that were left in the O'Brien Center locker rooms have been moved to room 110 in the Dauby Science Center. If you would like to pick something up, please come during normal business hours. You can call Kim Lakota at 440-449-4200 if you have any questions.
