The Ursuline College Track & Field team competed at the Wilmington College Jenna Strong Invitational this Saturday and came home with the meet win. The Arrows scored 117 points to edge out Wilmington College, who placed second with 110 points. Cedarville University finished third overall with 100 points.
The Arrows were led by
Kayla Kephart and
Savahnna Gyasi-Nimako, who both won their respective events in the high jump and long jump. Kephart cleared 1.52m in the high jump to earn 10 points, while Gyasi-Nimako jumped 5.11m in the long jump to also secure 10 points.
In the 400m hurdles, the Arrows scored a total of 13 points.
Kennedy Outland placed 3rd in 1:09.11 (6 points),
Breanna Banks was 4th in 1:10.58 (5 points), and
Aaliyah Banks placed 7th in 1:15.38 (2 points).
Aaliyah Banks also contributed 4 points in the 100m hurdles, placing 5th in 18.47 while running into a headwind.
In the sprints,
Eljoenai Wehl placed 3rd in the 400m with an outdoor personal best of 1:00.58 to earn 6 points.
Davinia Mireles-Sanchez finished 6th in a personal best 1:02.95 to earn 3 points.
Autumn Burgess had an impressive showing in the 100m dash, placing 2nd in 13.14 (8 points) and also placed 5th in the 200m with a time of 27.10 (4 points).
Savahnna Gyasi-Nimako placed 4th in the 200m with a new personal best of 26.90 into a headwind, earning 5 points.
In the field events,
Maggie Furst placed 4th in the discus with a personal best of 34.25m (5 points), while
Delaney Maclay threw a personal best 30.42m to place 11th. Maclay also placed 11th in the javelin with a mark of 21.47m. In the shot put,
Jasmine Jamison placed 4th with a throw of 11.12m (5 points), and Furst placed 8th with a mark of 10.04m.
In the distance events,
Emma Smith placed 2nd in her debut 10,000m with a time of 43:37.15, earning 8 points and moving to 4th all-time in school history.
Gisele Cabrera also made her debut in the 10,000m, running 47:16.24 to earn 6 points. In the 1500m,
Jocelyn Dornbirer opened her season with a 5th-place finish in 4:56.45 (4 points), while
Katie Lane placed 6th in 4:56.97, a time that ranks 5th all-time in school history (3 points).
Dominique Weisz ran a solid 5:19.32 to place 9th.
Kayla Kephart also contributed in the 800m, placing 8th in a strong season opener (1 point).
Angelys Caballero ran a personal best of 2:30.69 to place 11th. In the 5000m,
Emma Esteves had a solid race, finishing 4th in 18:36.12 to earn 5 points.
In the relays, the 4x400m relay team of Wehl, B. Banks, Mireles-Sanchez, and Outland won their event in 4:08.45, earning 10 points. The 4x800m relay team of Lane, Weisz, Caballero, and Dornbirer placed 3rd in 10:07.55, adding 6 more points to close out the meet.
The Arrows compete again this upcoming weekend at the John Homon Open hosted by Mount Union on April 11-12.
