The Ursuline College Track & Field team traveled to Staten Island, NY, to compete in the 2024 Wagner Seahawks Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday, December 13. This marked the team's first trip to the East Coast since 2020, before the COVID pandemic. The Arrows delivered an impressive performance, achieving school records and several top 5 marks in program history.
Alaysia Brooks won the 1000 meters in a competitive NCAA Division I field with a time of 2:55.31. Her performance set a new school record and ranks her 19th all-time in NCAA Division II history in her first time competing in the event.
Jocelyn Dornbirer placed sixth in the 1000 meters with a personal best of 3:08.87, moving her to third all-time in program history. Freshman
Katie Lane finished ninth in 3:11.28, another personal best.
Dominique Weisz improved her previous best by 12 seconds, finishing in 3:18.89.
Senior,
A'Zaria Thomas made her debut in the 3000 meters, placing sixth with a time of 10:14.25. Her performance ranks second in school history and currently leads the G-MAC this season in the event.
In the 300-meter dash, freshman
Eljoenai Wehl ran 42.06 in her collegiate debut, earning third place on Ursuline's all-time list. Senior
Dayahana Douglas followed closely with a personal-best time of 42.19, which ranks fourth all-time.
In the weight throw,
Meghan Hodges placed ninth with a mark of 12.86m, narrowly missing the finals and coming within 0.7 meters of her personal best. The 4x400-meter relay team of
Breanna Banks, Douglas,
Davinia Mireles-Sanchez, and Wehl finished eighth with a season-best time of 4:13.47.
The Arrows will return to competition in the new year, with a small group competing at the University of Akron on January 17 and the rest of the team traveling to Muskingum University on January 18.
