The Ursuline College Track & Field team had a busy weekend competing at YSU Icebreaker and CWRU 10th Annual Holiday Classic Lid Lifter. The Arrows had record breaking performances and top 5 finishes throughout their opening weekend.
At YSU on Friday, Emma Esteves placed 2nd overall with a time of 17:49.70 in the 5,000 meters. Esteves set a new school record by breaking her previous school record by 18 seconds. A'Zaria Thomas placed 2nd overall in the mile with a time of 5:12.32, which is 10 seconds off her school record and her best season opener performance in her career to close out the YSU Icebreaker.
On Saturday, freshmen Savahnna Gyasi-Nimako won the long jump with a mark of 5.39m. Gyasi-Nimako moves into 3rd all-time in school history with her performance in her collegiate debut. Gyasi-Nimako placed 3rd overall in the 60m dash final with a time of 8.17 and she ran 8.13 in the preliminary rounds of the 60m dash.Â
Dominique Weisz won the 1000m in a time of 3:30.64 and Gisele Cabrera placed 2nd in a time of 3:37.18. Breanna Banks placed 2nd overall in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.53 and she ran 9.42 in the preliminary rounds of the 60m hurdles.
The 4x4 relay of Banks, Davinia Mireles-Sanchez, Gyasi-Nimako, Kayla Kephart placed 3rd overall with a time of 4:24.71.Â
Davinia Mireles-Sanchez placed 5th overall in the 400m with a time of 1:05.03. Jasmine Jamison placed 5th overall in the shot put with a throw of 10.97m. Ayris Rich placed 6th overall in the high jump with a jump of 1.45m. Mya Knight placed 8th with a jump of 4.87m to round out the day for the Arrows at the CWRU 10th Annual Holiday Classic Lid Lifter.Â
The Arrows will return to competition next year at SPIRE Midwest Open on Saturday, January 20th.Â
