PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Alderson Broaddus University finished up its three-game sweep of the Ursuline College softball team with a pair of wins on Sunday (April 12) afternoon. The Battlers won game one by a score of 4-3 in eight innings before taking the finale, 6-1.

UC has lost 11 straight games and is now 7-16 overall and 0-11 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Battlers have not lost since March 21st, a span that covers 11 games. AB is now 16-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Ursuline is idle on Monday (April 13) before hosting Cedarville University for a pair on Tuesday (April 14). Game one of that doubleheader will start at 3:00 p.m.

Please note the schedule change as original plans had UC traveling to Cedarville on Tuesday but because of field availability issues, the Yellow Jackets are going to come to Pepper Pike on Tuesday and the Arrows will make the trip to Cedarville the following day.

Game One: Alderson Broaddus 4, Ursuline 3 - Eight Innings (Box Score)
Freshman pitcher Gina Rosshirt pitched a gem and quite frankly, she should have earned the win.

After Rosshirt struck out the first batter of the game, AB's Samantha Turner popped one up between the shortstop and left fielder. Both players called the ball ... and both peeled off so the ball fell in for a single. Rosshirt walked the next hitter and then a groundout to the shortstop put two runners in scoring position with two outs.

Alexxi Timmons put the ball in play but it was mishandled by the shortstop and two runs scored. Rosshirt got the next batter Julianna Bravo to fly out to the left fielder so UC practically gifted AB two extra outs in the first frame.

The Arrows got two back in the home half of the first - all with two outs. Sophomore first baseman Carly Hoffner laced a two-out single to right and then sophomore catcher Kaitlin Krajcik reached on an error by the pitcher.

Senior Sam Roberts walked to load the bases and then freshman third baseman BJ Thomas came through with a two-out single that plated both Hoffner and Krajcik to tie the game at two. Because of her own error, the runs were not charged to AB starting pitcher Ashley Baker.

Both pitchers really settled in from that point on. Starting with the third out in the first inning, Rosshirt retired 14 straight Battlers. Turner, who was the beneficiary of the miscommunication in the first inning, earned AB's first true hit with a single down the left field line with one out in the sixth but Rosshirt showed tremendous composure and got the next two hitters.

AB started the seventh with a runner on second and one down but Rosshirt got out of the mini-jam to give her team a chance to win it in regulation. UC had two hits off AB reliever Jazmyn Rohrer in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't get a run across and off we went to the eighth.

Alexis Kimball reached on catcher's interference to start the extra frame and after Rosshirt got Turner to pop out to the catcher in foul territory, Emily Morton took advantage of UC's rookie pitcher's lone mistake. Morton clobbered a two-run shot over the fence in left center to make it a 4-2 game.

Rosshirt singled and scored on junior second baseman Alison Porter's single in the bottom of the eighth to make it a one-run game but that was as close as Ursuline got.

In eight innings, Rosshirt allowed just one earned run and struck out four while scattering four hits and walking three. She fell to 1-7.

Rohrer picked up the win to improve to 10-3. She allowed just the one unearned run in the eighth and got 10 outs in relief of Baker who pitched well in her own right.

Game Two: Alderson Broaddus 6, Ursuline 1 (Box Score)
Alderson Broaddus jumped on freshman pitcher Gina Rosshhirt for two runs in the top of the first and the Battlers added one more in the third.

One more run in the fifth and two insurance runs in the top of the seventh made it a 6-0 game before UC got in the board in the home half of the last inning.

Rosshirt singled to left with one out and then moved to second on a passed ball. Sophomore Ashlie Brown was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter and she singled to second base which allowed Rosshirt to move up a station. With runners at the corners and one down, junior Alison Porter singled to bring in UC's lone run of game two.

The UC offense just couldn't solve AB pitcher Jazmyn Rohrer (11-3). She went the distance and allowed five hits while not walking a single batter. Rohrer also K'd four.

Rosshirt took the loss and fell to 1-8 after allowing six runs, five of which were earned, in her six innings of work. Junior Rachel Jalowiec pitched an inning in relief and gave up just one hit.
