ELKINS, W. Va. - The Ursuline College softball team was turned away in the series finale against Davis & Elkins College on Monday (March 23) afternoon. D&E completed the three-game sweep with a 9-1 victory in six innings.

Ursuline has dropped four of its last five and now sits at 7-8 overall and 0-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while Davis & Elkins inched closer to the break-even mark at 7-8 and 3-0 in conference play. The Senators have won five of their last six.

The Arrows jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Monday but couldn't hang on. With two down in the second, senior Sam Roberts singled and junior Danielle Almodiel followed with a base knock of her own.

Sophomore Kaitlin Krajcik came up with the third straight two-out hit to bring home Roberts and stake freshman pitcher Gina Rosshirt to a lead.

Rosshirt (1-4) got into some trouble and never made it out of the third inning. She walked the first batter and hit the next before retiring Taylor Norton on an infield pop out. Alexandra Lapallo, who pitched for D&E, came thorugh with a single to tie the game at one and the next batter, Kayla Norton, followed with a three-run homer to make it a 4-1 game and end Rosshirt's afternoon.

Sophomore Brittany Humbel replaced Rosshirt in the circle and held the game tight until serving up a solo homer to Kayla Whoolery in the fifth that made it a 5-1 game.

In the seventh, Taylor Norton belted a two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-1. UC head coach Sue Woodford brought in junior Rachel Jalowiec to replace Humbel and the first batter she faced was Whoolery who laced a two-run triple to end the game.

Lapallo (5-3) was in control in the circle. She worked all six innings and allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out two.
