Game One: Davis & Elkins 6, Ursuline 2 (Box Score)In game one, the starting pitchers were in control early. UC sophomore Brittany Humbel and her counterpart Alexandra Lapallo both put four zeroes on the board to start the game.
UC struck first when sophomore Brigitte Snow belted her first collegiate home run - and the team's first homer of the year - in the fifth. Snow's homer brought in her classmate Kaitlin Krajcik who led off the inning with a single and suddenly UC was up 2-0.
The lead held until the bottom of the sixth when the Senators batted around and got to Humbel for six runs. Ashley Dove started the frame with a walk and then Kayla Dianna singled. Both Dove and Dianna were brought in on Taylor Norton's game-tying triple that knotted the game at two.
Lapallo then helped her own cause with a two-run shot that put D&E ahead 4-2 and the other two insurance runs put the game out of reach.
UC sophomore Ashlie Brown started the Arrow seventh with a single but the next three batters were retired to end the game.
With the loss, Humbel fell to 6-3. She worked six innings and allowed six runs, all of which were earned, on six hits and six walks. Humbel did have five strikeouts.
Lapallo (4-3) allowed just the two runs on Snow's blast. She went the distance and scattered seven hits and walked just one batter while striking out three.
Game Two: Davis & Elkins 10, Ursuline 6 (Box Score)The Senators got to UC freshman pitcher Gina Rosshirt for a run in the first inning after she issued a one-out walk to Kayla Dianna who scored when the next hitter Taylor Norton laced a double.
Ursuline came back and took the lead in the third on sophomore Carly Hoffner's two out, two-run double that plated sophomore Kaitlin Krajcik and junior Alison Porter.
Unfortunately for the Arrows, D&E answered with two runs of their own in the home half of the third to re-take the lead at 3-2.
Davis & Elkins started to separate with two more runs in the fourth that pushed the lead to 5-2 before the Arrows cut into the deficit. After Krajcik was hit by a pitch to start the fifth, Porter doubled her home with one down in the inning to bring Ursuline within two runs (5-3).
Rosshirt got into some trouble in the home part of the fifth and issued a walk to Dianna with the bases loaded. Taylor Norton followed with a three-run double that made it a 9-3 game.
Senior Sam Roberts singled home sophomore Taylor Test, who was pinch running for sophomore Brittany Humbel, in the top of the sixth and Krajcik came through with a two-run single later in the inning which scored freshman Leah Leshnack and Roberts.
D&E added an insurance run in the sixth and the Arrows brought just three hitters to the plate in the seventh to face reliever Autumn Appleby who got the final four outs in relief of starter Victoria Krystynak (1-1).
Rosshirt (1-3) gave up 11 hits and walked six. Of the 10 runs, only four were earned and she did have four strikeouts.
