The Arrows came from behind to beat Medaille College, 6-5, in the first game of the day and closed with a 6-1 win over Montreat College.
With the losses, Medaille fell to 3-4 overall and Montreat, winners in two straight entering the game against UC, dipped to 2-17.
Because the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic is a neutral site tournament, official game files are not yet available. Here is what we know based on the postgame report from the UC coaching staff:
Ursuline 6, Medaille 5The Arrows jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on a run in the home half of the fourth to stake themselves to a 4-0 lead. The Mavericks scored three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead and it held until the bottom of the seventh.
With one out in the home half of the last inning, sophomore Brigitte Snow singled through the left side and scored the tying run when she came home on an RBI triple off the bat of freshman Leah Leshnack. Sophomore Brittany Humbel, who also tripled earlier in the game, followed with a single that allowed Leshnack to jog home and give the Arrows a 6-5 walk-off victory.
Freshman pitcher Gina Rosshirt started the game and went two-thirds of an inning before giving way to Humbel who allowed one run on four hits while striking out eight to earn the win in relief.
Sophomore Ashlie Brown notched her first collegiate hit and scored during the game. Her classmate Carly Hoffner was 2-3 with an RBI and senior Sam Roberts was 1-3 with a run scored and one RBI.
Ursuline 6, Montreat 1Freshman pitcher Gina Rosshirt pitched the first three innings and allowed just one unearned run while striking out three Cavaliers. Sophomore Brittany Humbel took over in the circle in the fourth and watched Montreat put four zeroes on the scoreboard. Humbel earned the win after Rosshirt failed to meet the minimum of four innings necessary for a starting pitcher to be credited with the victory.
The six UC runs came on 11 hits.
