Ursuline has four regular season home games on the docket, starting with tomorrow's (April 25) doubleheader against
Trevecca Nazarene University. The first game will start at 2:00 p.m. and between games one and two, UC's three seniors will be honored as part of 'Senior Day' festivities.
Game one will be covered with free live audio on the
Ursuline College Sports Network. Due to a home lacrosse game at 4:00 p.m., game two will not be covered.
Game One: Ohio Valley 2, Ursuline 1OVU took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. Sophomore pitcher Kristine Brown was hit by a pitch and later scored on a two-out single from Kayleigh Schroeder.
UC tied it with a run in the home half of the second. Sophomore Alison Porter laced a one-out single and moved up a station on a sac bunt by freshman Kaitlin Krajcik. With two down, senior Natalie Huggins drilled a ball to right that allowed Porter to score from second.
Neither team pushed a run across in the next four innings but the Pioneers scored in the top of the seventh to move ahead for good. Schroeder started the inning with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Kyle Doelling, who got to second on a Morgan Wilson sac bunt. Doelling scored on a throwing error in the infield that should have resulted in the third out of the inning.
Brown then retied the Arrows one-two-three in the seventh to preserve the victory. She allowed seven hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out five. UC freshman Dagmar Smith (3-4) took the loss despite allowing just five base runners (four hits, one walk) in seven innings. The deciding run was unearned.
Game Two: Ohio Valley 3, Ursuline 1Ursuline struck first in game two with a run in the home half of the first. Sophomore Jayla Garner singled to right with one down and scored when senior Michele Hare put the ball in play only to have it misplayed by the first baseman.
The lead held until a three-run Pioneer sixth. The big blow came from sophomore pitcher Kristine Brown who helped her own cause by belting her first career home run over the fence in right center. UC senior pitcher Sarah Maxwell was the victim of some poor defense in the inning and had to work around two errors.
After OVU took the 3-1 lead, Brown retired the last six Arrows in order to win her second game of the day. In game two, Brown allowed just two hits and walked a batter while striking out four. She faced 24 batters, just three above the minimum.
Maxwell (3-8) took the loss after allowing seven hits in her seven innings of work. One of the three runs that scored under her watch was unearned.
