Game One Box Score / Game Two Box Score

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – After dropping game one to Salem International University by a score of 11-0 in five innings, the Ursuline College softball team bounced back in game two and took the finale, 7-1, at John Carroll University's Bracken Field.

The Arrows finished the day at 10-19 overall and 2-12 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. SIU is now 14-24 overall and 6-10 in conference play.

Ursuline will get right back at it tomorrow (Thursday – April 24) with a make-up against Ohio Valley University. The doubleheader, which starts at 3:30 p.m., will be held on the Ursuline College campus and will be covered with free live audio on the Ursuline College Sports Network.

Game One: Salem International 11, Ursuline 0
Salem International jumped out in front with three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Bre'Ana Felix started the game with a walk and Summer Clark followed with a single before Katie Mangold took UC senior pitcher Sarah Maxwell over the fence in left field to make it a 3-0 game.

The Tigers extended the lead with a run in the top of the fourth thanks to three hits and an Ursuline error.

SIU grew the lead to 11 after a seven-run fifth that ended the game due to the run-rule. UC made two errors in that frame but the big blow came when Katie Chyrssofos belted a grand slam to center.

UC's offense had trouble solving SIU starting pitcher Lise Couturier. She pitched all five innings and allowed just six hits and one walk while improving to 8-11. Maxwell worked all five innings for UC and of the 11 runs scored, only four were earned. She did allow 10 hits and walked five batters while striking out three.

Game Two: Ursuline 7, Salem International 1
This time around, Ursuline struck first. In the bottom of the second, senior Natalie Huggins came through in the clutch with a two-out single down the left field line that plated freshmen Brittany Humbel and Kaitlin Krajcik.

With Humbel cruising in the circle, that would be more than enough run support but the Arrows kept adding on for good measure.

In the third, junior Sam Roberts led off with a single to center and she advanced to second on an error. Sophomore Jayla Garner moved her to third on a sac bunt and then freshman Dagmar Smith drove in Roberts with a base knock to right field.

Sophomore Alison Porter started the Arrow fourth with a single and later scored on a double to left field by Huggins for her third RBI of the afternoon.

Ursuline really knocked down the door with a two-run fifth that made it a 6-0 game. Smith laced a one-out single to left and then Humbel moved her to third with a two-out single to center. Porter's clutch two-out hit brought in both rookies and staked Humbel to a six-run cushion.

Roberts belted a one-out solo home run, the first dinger by an Arrow all season, in the top of the sixth to close the UC scoring.

The Tigers got to Humbel for a run in the top of the seventh to end her shutout bid but she was magnificent. The Parma High School alum scattered 11 hits and walked a batter but was able to limit the damage to earn her third collegiate victory.

SIU's Isabel Villalobos allowed seven runs, six of which were earned, and took the loss to fall to 6-11.
