Late inning rallies lead to doubleheader split against Salem

Boggs recorded game-winning hit in second game
The Ursuline Arrows split an afternoon doubleheader with Salem International University on Friday, with the Tigers holding on to win game one, 8-7. However, the Arrows rallied to win game two, 5-4, in their last at-bat.

In game one, Ursuline fell behind 5-0, but scored twice in the fourth inning, once in the fifth, two more times in the sixth, and twice in the seventh - but Salem was able to hold the lead each time, answering with two in the fifth and one in the seventh to hold on to the 8-7 win.

In game two, the Arrows took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Salem stormed back with four runs in the sixth to tie the game. However, a lead-off walk to pinch-hitter Nicole Schierbaum, who was then sacrificed to second by Samantha Roberts, scored the winning run on a RBI-single by Miranda Boggs.

In game one, Michele Hare guided the offense, going 3-4 with three runs batted in. Natalie Huggins also went 3-4, while Elizabeth Maher went 1-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in on her home run in the seventh inning to pull the team to within a run.

In game two, Boggs and Megan Passwaiter each collected two hits, while  Huggins was 0-3, but drove in two. Ciara Seymour pitched a great game, despite giving up four runs in the sixth inning. She went seven innings, giving up eight hits and all four runs were unearned as the defense committed three errors in the game. Seymour records her eighth win of the season, of the teams 11 total victories.

The Arrows will wrap up the regular-season in just a few ours as they take on Urbana at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
