Cedarville takes doubleheader from Ursuline Softball

Ursuline College softball begins its final week of the regular season, which features three home doubleheaders in four days. It began on Wednesday as Cedarville University (32-19) took both games, winning game one in six innings, 8-0, and then pulling out a close one in game two, 7-5.

The Arrows held strong in the first game, as the teams went into the fifth inning scoreless. However, a big fifth inning led to five runs for the Yellow Jackets, and then they added three more in the sixth to close out the game early.

Ursuline stepped up in the second game, taking a 2-1 lead after the first inning and a 4-2 lead after four innings. Once again, the fifth inning did the team in as the Arrows allowed five runs in the fifth on six straight singles to start the inning. Ursuline added one run in its last at-bat, but it wasn't enough as the game one pitcher for Cedarville closed out game two for the save.

Offensively for the Arrows, Natalie Huggins was 2-3 with two RBI in game two, while six other hitters recorded at least one hit for Ursuline, including a two-run single by Melissa Ruminski in the fourth.

The Arrows will continue the late-season home stand on Friday with a doubleheader against Salem International (3:30 p.m.), before closing out the season early Saturday morning against Urbana (10:00 a.m.).
