The Ursuline College softball team split a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Baldwin-Wallace, with BW winning game one, 7-0, before the Arrows took game two, 3-2. In game two, Samantha Roberts hit her first home run as a member of the UC program, while the Arrows followed her bomb with two more runs in a big three-run inning.
In game two, Ursuline scored all three of its runs on three hits, all coming in the top of the fourth inning. Roberts led off the inning with a home run to centerfield, while Megan Passwaiter followed with a double and Miranda Boggs singled to put two on with no outs. Natalie Huggins had an RBI-groundout, as did Elizabeth Maher.
With a 3-0 lead, Ursuline was able to hold on to its lead despite giving up a run in the fourth and a run in the sixth. Ciara Seymour went all seven innings, allowing a pair of runs on seven hits. She struck out one and didn't walk a batter. Baldwin-Wallace scored on a solo-home run and a RBI-groundout, but stranded five runners in the loss.
In game one, Baldwin-Wallace scored three times in the bottom of the first, which was enough to cruise to the victory as the Arrows collected only three hits (Roberts, Lauren Grana, and Briana Mlady). BW added a run in the third, another in the fourth, and two in the fifth.
The Arrows will return to action quickly, hosting La Roche on Friday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. Next week will be the final week of the regular season for UC, with home games against Cedarville (4/25), Salem International (4/27), and Urbana (4/28).
