Behind three home runs in each game, Point Park took both games of an afternoon doubleheader against Ursuline College on Tuesday, 6-2 and 7-2 (in six innings). The Arrows pitching staff only allowed six hits in the first game, however three of them were timely, as the Pioneers scored all six runs on a solo-home run, a two-run home run, and a three-run home run.
In game two, the Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an oddly scored run off a two-base throwing error by the Arrows. Point Park extended the lead with a solo-home run to lead off the inning and a two-out two-run home run, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Ursuline cut the lead in half with two in the bottom of the third on three-straight singles by Miranda Boggs, Natalie Huggins, and Elizabeth Maher, whose single drove home both runs.
As darkness approached, Point Park added a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth on a solo home-run and a RBI-single. The game was officially called after the sixth inning due to darkness.
Ursuline will continue a busy week, playing a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon against Westminster, a doubleheader the day after tomorrow against Malone, and then another doubleheader this Sunday at Salem International. The two home weekday doubleheaders will be broadcast live on the UC Sports Network.
