T&F Finishes on Podium at G-MAC Championships

The Ursuline College Track & Field team competed in the G-MAC Conference Championships this weekend in Ashland, OH. The Arrows placed 7th overall out of 13 teams. The Arrows finished the meet with a total of 28 points scored, which is 6 points higher than last season.

On Friday, The Distance Medley Relay Team of Jocelyn Dornbirer, Breanna Banks, Alaysia Brooks, and A'Zaria Thomas broke the school record while placing 3rd overall in a time of 11:51.22 to hit the NCAA provisional mark. This awarded the foursome Third Team All-Conference in the event and 6 points for the Arrows.

Freshman, Savahnna Gyasi-Nimako placed 6th overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.46m to gain 3 points for the Arrows. Gyasi-Nimako jump moved her to a tie for the second-best long jump in program history with UC Hall of Famer - Bea Indurain. 

On Saturday, Alaysia Brooks defended her 800 meters championship title in a personal best time, meet record performance, third all-time performances in G-MAC history, school record, NCAA provisional mark, and 13th all-time performance in NCAA DII history (all-conditions) in a time of 2:06.64. Brooks received First Team All-Conference in the event and earned 10 points for the Arrows. Brooks currently ranks 1st in the country in NCAA Division II in the event.

Gyasi-Nimako placed 3rd overall in the triple jump with a personal best of 11.49m to improve her 2nd all-time mark in program history. Gyasi-Nimako received Third Team All-Conference in the event and earned 6 points for the Arrows. Gyasi-Nimko currently has the 4th best jump in the Midwest Region. 

The 4x400m relay team of Banks, Brooks, Thomas, and Dornbirer had a season-best performance in a time of 3:57.71,which placed them 6th overall in the event and earned 3 points for the Arrows. The 4x400m relay foursome moved into 5th all-time in program history in the event.

Additional Arrows personal bests and season bests from the weekend at G-MAC Championships included Arianna Wallace's personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 14.32m. This improved her 4th all-time mark in school history. Banks had a huge personal best in the 60m hurdles preliminary round of 9.27, which placed her 11th overall in the meet just three spots out of finals. Karrington Green had a season best with 9.45, which placed her 13th overall in 60m hurdles. 

Dornbirer had a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:21.01. Kayla Kephart had a personal best in the 400m with a time of 1:04.00. Dayahana Douglas had a season-best performances in 200m with 25.51 placing 12th overall in the event. Emma Esteves placed 10th in 5000m with a 17:59.25. Emma Smith was just off her personal best in the 3000m with a time of 11:42.43. Kephart placed 13th in high jump with a jump of 1.50m in the high jump. 

The Arrows will now wait to see if the DMR relay team of Jocelyn Dornbirer, Breanna Banks, Alaysia Brooks, A'Zaria Thomas and Emma Esteves will make the cut off to be selected for the NCAA championships with their NCAA provisional mark. The DMR is currently ranked 26th in the country. Alaysia Brooks currently has the top time in the country in the 800 meters and punched her ticket to be selected for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in two weeks.

The NCAA meet will be held on March 8-9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. The official championship field announcement will be posted on Tuesday at 6pm EST on NCAA.com.
