The Ursuline College basketball team had a thrilling 72-70 win versus Ohio Dominican as leads changed 12 times throughout the match up on Wednesday night.
The Arrows opened up with a seven point run in the first quarter before ODU drained two three pointers to start the back-and-forth action. The Panthers took a five-point lead at 19-14 with 3:11 remaining in the quarter before three Arrows helped close the gap to end of the first period behind just 22-21.
The second quarter started with two shots in a row from sophomore
Madison Cloonan before the Panthers answered back. After strong shooting action from both teams, ODU went on an eight-point unanswered run.
Alyssa Evans ended the five minute drought by hitting a three pointer and a quick shot from the field to end the first half. The Arrows went into the break trailing 37-33.
The Panthers came out of the break shooting strong as Ursuline struggling to regain momentum. At the 3:45 mark, ODU took the largest lead of the game of 12 points after a three pointer. Sophomore
Emma Pospisil answered right away with a three pointer of her own and followed up just 30 seconds later with a second three pointer, sparking a fire in the Arrows. UC finished the third trailing by just one point, 54-53.
The teams traded leads eight times in the first five minutes of play of the fourth quarter. At the 4:16 mark, Bekah Green put away two free-throws and Pospisil hit yet another three point shot to follow up. The Panthers would only hit two more shots in the paint, not enough to take a lead on the Arrows in the final 45 seconds of play. The Arrows held strong for their 72-70 victory over Ohio Dominican.
The Arrows shot 48 percent (28-of-58) from the floor and were 9-of-25 from the three-point line while ODU finished the game 27-of-54 from the floor and 12-of-31 from the line.
Ursuline was led by
Alyssa Evans' 20 points and Pospisil who finished with a career-high 15 points.
Madison Cloonan had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Arrows remain at home this weekend as they take on Cedarville University on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
