Basketball Falls In Final Minute of Play to Findlay

The Ursuline College basketball team put on quite a show for their final home game of the season against the University of Findlay. The Arrows fell 69-68 in a nail biting fourth quarter finish.

The Arrows showed up ready to play in the first quarter, putting up a strong defense and outshooting the Oilers 23-20. With the game tied four different times in throughout the ten minutes of play, UC used their strong shooting of 62 percent (8-of-13) from the field and 57 percent (4-of-7) from the arc to go into the second quarter with a three point lead.

Findlay tied up the game in the first two minutes of the second quarter before the Arrows went on a six point unanswered run. The Oilers fought back once more and both teams traded leads six times until Findlay had a quick four point run to finish the half on top. The Oilers went into the break leading 40-37.

The second half opened up with Junior, Patience Ashaolu draining two-three pointers and a jumper for the Arrows first eight points of the third quarter. After a run of strong shooting from Ursuline, the Oilers went on a 10 point unanswered run in the final four minutes of play. They outscored the Arrows 17-15 in the third and went into the fourth quarter leading 57-52.

The Oilers started the fourth quarter with a six point run in the first five minutes of play. Bekah Green hit a three pointer to stop the run at the 5:34 mark to spark the final fight from the Arrows. With 1:07 on the clock, Michaela Cloonan made a game changing three point shot to put the Arrows in a great spot to take the game. With UF missing two separate sets of free throws, Ursuline had their final shot at the game with just seven seconds left on the clock. Despite the scramble play to make the shot, the Arrows were not able to execute for the win.

Ursuline fell 68-69 in their final home home of the season. Evans led the Arrows with her 19 points, 13 of which were in the first half alone. Green and Ashaolu followed up with 13 points each on their own. The Arrows finished the game shooting 44 percent (25-of-56) from inside of the paint and 9-for-19 from behind the three point line while the Oilers shot 57 percent (29-of-51) and 3-of-8.

The Arrows travel to Nashville, TN for their final two home games of this season next weekend where they will face Trevecca Nazarene on Febuary 24th and Kentucky Wesleyan on February 26th.
