Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Goes 0-2 On The Road

The Ursuline College volleyball team traveled to Nashville, TN and Owensboro, KY to compete in back to back games against Trevecca Nazarene University and Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Arrows dropped both games on the road 0-3 and 1-3.

In the match up against the Trojans on Friday, we saw back and forth action until TNU went on a six point run followed by a five point run to put UC at a deficit. Despite their fight, the Arrows were unable to close the gap in the first set and fell 13-25.

The Trojans carried this momentum into the second set and led 9-18 before UC kicked it into gear. The Arrows went on two strong runs of three and six to bring the score to a close 18-19. However, TNU finished the set with three unstoppable kills to win the second set 21-25. In the third set, Ursuline's hitting percentage took a fall, making it difficult for the Arrows to gain an advantage. UC fell 14-25 to TNU to end the game.

The Arrows were led by Maleah Gibbons hitting a .588 with 10 kills and 3 blocks. Emily Holton put up 10 digs while Maggie Bradley recorded 23 assists.

On Saturday morning, Ursuline faced Kentucky Wesleyan in an evenly matched game. UC had 15 kills in the first set compared to KWC's 12 but made eight hitting errors which put them at a deficit. With the first set tied at 20-20, the Panthers went on a five point run to take the first set.

In set two, the Arrows took the lead half way through and held it for the remainder of the set to take the win 25-19. Ursuline's defense was strong with 16 digs and 3 team blocks.

In an exciting third set, both teams had 17 kills each. UC took their biggest lead at 14-8 before KWC came back within two points. With the game tied at 25-25, the Panthers put down two kills to finish the set 25-27.

The fourth set continued with the same competitive play by both teams. The Panthers held a small lead the entire set until the Arrows tied it at 23-23. UC stopped a game winning point once at 24-25 to tie the game once again but had two attack errors to follow to end the game 25-27.

Freshman, Amie McCarthy had a career high of 15 kills and led the way offensively along with sophomore setter Maggie Bradley. Bradley's double-double consisted of 17 digs and a career high of 47 assists. Freshman, Karrington Green also posted a career high with 12 kills to add to the team's 60 total kills. Ursuline dropped a hard fought battle three sets to one.
