The Ursuline College women's basketball team loses 71-69 in a tough battle against Ohio Dominican this afternoon.
The Panthers started out strong with a 5-0 lead before Riley Stopp attacked the basket to score the first 2 points for the Arrows. Both teams battled back and forth in the opening quarter. At 5:05, the Arrows began to get a grove and went on a 6-0 run. This was not enough to hold off the Panthers who answered with their own 8-0 run to end the quarter ahead at 18-17.
The Arrows picked up their defensive pressure in the second quarter and held Ohio Dominican to 8 points. In the first half of play the Arrows shot 51.9% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc compared to Ohio Dominican's 30.3% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc.
Ohio Dominican came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Arrows 16-9.
Ursuline fought hard in the fourth quarter scoring 24 points, 13 of which came from Michaela Cloonan. However, the Panthers outscored the Arrows by 5 in the fourth quarter and went 13-15 from the charity stripe to help seal the victory.
The Arrows were paced by Michaela Cloonan's 17 points (8-15) and 3 rebounds while Madison Cloonan recorded yet another double-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Four other Arrows tossed in double digit points this afternoon.
Ursuline will return to the Sister Diano Stano Gymnasium Thursday (Jan. 13th) at 5:30 pm to take on Kentucky Wesleyan in a Great Midwest matchup.
