The Ursuline College basketball team showed up big at home versus Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Trojans 91-73.
The Arrows started off the first quarter shooting strong,
Patience Ashaolu draining a three pointer in the first 30 seconds of play. Ursuline was 59 percent shooting from the field and 4-for-8 from behind the arc while Trevecca shot 37 percent and 1-for-9. They outscored the Trojans 26-16 with nine fast break points.
The Arrows cooled off in the second quarter while the Trojans went on a 14-point unanswered run . Bekah Green would draw two fouls before the end of the quarter to put in an end to the run and put Ursuline back on the board. UC led 36-35 at the break.
Ashaolu started the third quarter with yet another three pointer in the first 30 seconds of play, setting the tone for the Arrows offense. They ran with the game, reaching a lead of 16 points off a layup from
Alyssa Evans with 56 seconds left. The Arrows outscored the Trojans 31-20 to finish the third and went into the final quarter of the game leading 67-55.
The Arrows held strong in the fourth, never dropping below a 10-point lead. Despite Trevecca's fight, they could not close the gap that Ursuline built. The Arrow finished the game winning 91-73.
The Arrows were led by Green tying her career high of 27-points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line and 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Madison Cloonan finished with 18 points and nine rebounds while
Michaela Cloonan and
Alyssa Evans added in 12 points each. Junior,
Patience Ashaolu shot 100% from the three point line.
Ursuline shot 53 percent (33-of-62) from the field and were 7-of-18 from the three-point line and 18-of-23 from the free throw line on the afternoon while Trevecca shot 41 percent (27-of-66) and were 8-of-27 from the three-point line and 11-of-16 from the free throw line.
The Arrows visit Walsh University on Monday evening where they will face the number three ranked Cavaliers at 5:30 pm.
