61-Point First Half Leads Arrows to Win over Hillsdale

The Ursuline College basketball team scored a season-high 61 points in the first half as they closed out the home portion of their schedule with a 90-79 win over Hillsdale on Thursday night.

In a first quarter that saw several lead changes, Ursuline held a 26-24 advantage at the end of the period.

Senior Morgan Mattimore connected on a three-pointer at the 7:48 mark of the second quarter to make it 38-32 and spark a 9-2 Ursuline run that saw the Arrows build their largest lead of the half at 47-34 with under five minutes to play.

Freshman Celina Koncz hit a pair of free throws and buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to push the lead out to 57-39. The Arrows took a 61-43 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

The 35-point second quarter was the most points scored in a quarter this year by the Arrows and the 11 first half three-pointers were also a season-best in a half. The 69 percent field goal shooting in the second was also the best shooting half Ursuline has had since the 2015-16 season.

The Arrows offense cooled off in the third quarter as the Chargers outscored Ursuline 22-14 in the frame and made it a 75-65 game headed to the final ten minutes.

Ursuline went 32-of-62 from the field in the game and 11-of-25 from the arc while Hillsdale was 29-of-72 from the field and 12-of-32 from three. The Arrows won the rebounding battle 32-24 and had seven steals while each team turned the ball over 13 times.

Ursuline was led by Mattimore who finished with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from deep. Junior Bekah Green added 21 points and was 6-of-8 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Alyssa Evans chipped in 14 points while freshman Madison Cloonan had 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Arrows concluded the regular season with a southern swing next week as they will match-up against Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan.
