Mattimore's 34-Points Leads Ursuline Over Trevecca 91-88

The Ursuline College basketball team came up big in a must-win game on the road at Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon defeating the Trojans 91-88 behind a career-high 34 points from senior Morgan Mattimore.
 
The Arrows fell behind 16-4 in the first quarter, before Mattimore sparked an 11-0 run to pull Ursuline back to within one at 16-15 with 3:54 to play in the quarter. Mattimore scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game on 4-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from the arc.
 
The Trojans built a 31-24 lead with 7:24 to play in the first half before a layup from sophomore Alyssa Evans cut the deficit to 36-33 with 4:10 to play. Freshman Celina Koncz found her way to the basket with 1:27 to play in the half to make it 42-41. Evans followed with a three-pointer in the final 30 seconds to give Ursuline a 44-42 lead headed into the break.
 
Mattimore helped put the Arrows back in front in the fourth quarter with 5:29 to play with a three-pointer to make it 78-75. She connected on her fifth three-pointer of the gameless than a minute later to make it 81-78.
 
Back-to-back baskets from Evans and Rebekah Green staked Ursuline to an 85-78 lead with 3:07 to play in the contest. Trevecca closed the gap to 89-88 but Evans hit a pair of free throws to help seal the win for Ursuline.
 
The Arrows were led by Mattimore's 34-points on 14-of-22 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the three-point line. Evans finished with 18 points and dished out eight assists while Madison Cloonan added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Green chipped in 13 points. Ursuline a had a season-low 11 turnovers in the game and had 16 assists on 33 made field goals.
 
Ursuline shot 51 percent (33-of-65) from the field and were 10-of-26 from the three-point line and 15-of-23 from the free throw line on the afternoon while Trevecca also shot 51 percent (35-of-69) and were 6-of-22 from the three-point line and 12-of-13 from the free throw line. The Trojans won the rebounding battle 40-31 but turned the ball over 17 times.
 
The Arrows will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 PM EST tipoff with the Panthers.
