The Ursuline College basketball team opened their season with a 95-57 win over Quincy University on Friday night.
Both teams came out shooting well in the opening quarter but the Arrows quickly took the lead after
Alyssa Evans knocked down two three point shots. Ursuline built a 24-15 lead before heading into the second quarter, scoring 10 of their 24 points off of turnovers from the Hawks.
Ursuline set the pace of the second quarter with 7 fast break points compared to Quincy's 2 and ended the half with at 44-30. They held a strong lead for the remainder of the game and didn't dip below a +20 point lead after a set of free throws from
Patience Ashaolu in the 6th minute of the third quarter. The Arrows reached their highest lead of +40 in the fourth quarter after a layup from
Michaela Cloonan
Ursuline finished the game shooting 59 percent (36-of-61) from the floor and were 9-of-19 from the three-point line while Quincy shot just 39 percent (24-of-62) from the field and were 6-of-21 from deep. The Arrows were 14-for-16 from the free throw line while the Hawks finished 3-of-5. Ursuline won the rebounding battle 31-26 and forced 18 turnovers.
The Arrows were led by
Michaela Cloonan who finished with 22 points and 2 rebounds on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. Bekah Green finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds while
Madison Cloonan posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.Â
Ursuline hosts Truman University in the Tip Off Classic on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
