Box Score The Ursuline Basketball Team swept their opening weekend at home with their 87-77 win versus Truman State on Saturday afternoon.
The Arrows used their strong first three quarters to build a lead against the Bulldogs. After a back-and-forth first quarter, Ursuline took a one point lead with 2:00 remaining when
Michaela Cloonan hit a jumper to close the gap before
Madison Cloonan made a set of free throws to the end of the first period 20-18.
The second quarter had the Arrows outshooting the Bulldogs 13-9, scoring 5 of their points off of turnovers. Their lead hit the double digits in the third quarter when
Alyssa Evans hit a three pointer in the with 8:52 left. The Arrows shot 81 percent from the floor (13-of-16) in the third quarter and hit 4-of-6 from behind-the-arc.
The Bulldogs cut the deficit to single digits late in the fourth quarter after a run of 24 points, bringing the score to 67-75. Despite Truman outshooting Ursuline 36-23, the Arrows held their lead to finish the game 87-77.
The Arrows shot 100 percent in free throws (16-16) and both teams shot 50 percent from the floor, Ursuline with 32-of-64 and Trevecca with 30-of-60. UC shot 7-19 from the three-point line while TS shot 10-28.
Ursuline was led by
Michaela Cloonan who finished with 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting and 2-of-3 from the three-point line in 32 minutes of play. Bekah Green added 20 points while
Madison Cloonan had 19 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. Evans added 14 points and Ashaolu finished with 6 points and 4 rebounds.
The Arrows will travel to Slippery Rock University on Wednesday where they will tip off at 5:30 pm.
