Senior Day Victory for Volleyball

The Ursuline College volleyball team defeated Lake Erie on Saturday evening, 3-1. The Arrows celebrated their five seniors, Nora Clink, Leah LaPinta, Jamison Turay, Sarah Miozzi and Regan Nickol, and honored their contributions to the program. 

Both teams came out to play in the first set going point for point until Ursuline pulled ahead for their 25-23 win. Senior Setters, Nickol and Miozzi, tallied 15 assists combined while Turay and Gerth had hitting percentages of .667 and .500. Ursuline led the entire second set with their strong defense and consistent play, tallying 18 digs as a team. They came out with a 25-20 win sending them into the third set.

The Arrows had a 17-12 lead in the third set before Lake Erie battled back to tie the game at 20-20. After a run of errors from the Arrows, Lake Erie had game point at 24-21 but Ursuline did not give up. Both teams fought hard to win the third set until Lake Erie came out on top at 25-27, sending the game into the fourth and final set.

Ursuline showed up in the fourth set determined to win and held on to their lead the entire set. They finished strong at 25-16. Nickol and Miozzi helped the Arrows succeed by diversifying the offense with their 46 assists. Sophomore Abigail Aguilera-Ayala had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs while fellow Outside Hitter, Nora Clink, had a strong defensive game with 17 digs. Gerth and Gibbons had 10 kills each for the game while Freshman Kenna Casil had a great showing on the right side.

The Arrows hit the road for their next match ups against Walsh and Malone. They face Walsh on Friday, November 5th at 7:00 pm and Malone on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 pm.
