The Ursuline College lacrosse team dropped its season opener against visiting Gannon University on Monday afternoon in a game played at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills.
Gannon started the scoring in the first minute on a goal by Courtney Young that made it 1-0. At the 22:43 mark,
Jaclyn Gilmore scored the Arrows first goal to tie game 1-1.
The Knights scored eight unanswered goals and built a 9-1 lead before
Emily Polivick scored to make it 9-2 with 6:28 to play in the first half.
Gannon held a 13-2 lead at the break.
The Arrows offense started the second half by scoring four consecutive goals.
Jillian Guiles scored her first goal of the season followed by back-to-back goals from Gilmore and capped off by the first goal of the season from
Victoria Madray.
Ursuline was outshot 45-16 in the game but only 15-7 in the second half. The Arrows turned the ball over 12 times while Gannon had nine. The Arrows were 13-for-16 on clear attempts while the Knights went 8-for-8.
Emily Hall made 14 saves in goal for Ursuline.
The Arrows will travel to Ashland on March 3 to take on the Eagles in a non-conference match-up at 4:00 PM
