The Ursuline College basketball team battled visiting Cedarville for four quarters in a tough 85-75 loss on Wednesday evening.
Both offenses started strong in the opening quarter. With the game tied 6-6, sophomore
Alyssa Evans connected on a pair of free throws and senior
Morgan Mattimore buried a three-pointer to make it 11-6 in favor of Ursuline. Sophomore
Tamara Mathis hit a jumper to make it 13-8 before Cedarville rallied back to pull within a basket at 15-13 with 4:52 to play in the opening quarter.

Ursuline shot 9-for-16 in the first quarter and led 23-21 at the end of the period.

Cedarville outscored the Arrows 23-20 in the second quarter after going 10-for-17 from the field as a team while Ursuline cooled off but still shot 42 percent.

The Yellow Jackets held a 44-43 edge at the break.

Ursuline and Cedarville struggled in the third quarter from the field as both defenses started to set in.

The Yellow Jackets went on a 9-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to pull away and build their lead up to 77-65 with 3:30 remaining in the game.

Freshman
Madison Cloonan paced the Arrows with a career-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was 8-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Mattimore added 13 points while sophomore
Aubrie Marsh finished with 10 points. Freshman
Michaela Cloonan added seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Cedarville shot 43 percent from the field (31-of-71) and went 9-for-25 from the three-point line. The Arrows were 30-for-74 (41 percent) from the field and 8-for-29 from deep. The Arrows were 7-for-10 from the free throw line while the Yellow Jackets were 14-for-21. Ursuline won the rebounding battle 46-38 and had 20 assists on their 30 made field goals.

Ursuline will travel to Tiffin University on Saturday to take on the undefeated Dragons who defeated Malone on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm and will be streamed live on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
