The Ursuline College basketball team led 59-57 after three quarters before Tiffin outscored the Arrows 20-10 over the final 10 minutes as they picked up a home win 77-69 on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the opening two minutes of the contest before freshman
Michaela Cloonan knocked down a three-pointer on a pass from senior
Morgan Mattimore to make it 6-5. Trailing 11-7, sophomore
Alyssa Evans connected on a three-pointer on a pass from Cloonan to pull the Arrows back to within a point at 11-10 with 6:08 to play.
Tiffin continued their hot start from the field and extended the lead to 17-10 before the Arrows got a spark from their bench when sophomore
Tamara Mathis finished a layup and hit a three-pointer to close the gap to 17-15 with 2:00 to play. The Dragons held a 21-20 edge after one.
Cloonan buried a jumper and Evans followed with a jumper of her own in the second quarter to put Ursuline in front 24-21. A pair of free throws from Mathis helped the Arrows build a six point advantage early in the period.
The Dragons held a 36-35 edge at the break.
After a back and forth third quarter saw the two teams trade the lead several times, Tiffin's defense held Ursuline to just 4-for-11 shooting in the final 10 minutes to pick up their third win of the season.
The Arrows shot 43 percent (27-of-62) from the field in the game and were 6-for-18 from behind the three-point line while Tiffin shot 51 percent (30-for-58) from the floor and were just 1-for-9 from deep. The Dragons were 16-for-22 from the free throw line while the Arrows finished the game 9-for-13. Tiffin out reboudned Ursuline 36-32 and the Arrows were narrowly edged on the boards 36-32.
Mathis paced the Arrows offense with 18 points on 8-for-18 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out three assists. Evans finished with 12 points while junior Bekah Green added 10 points.
Ursuline will play its final two games of 2020 beginning with a trip to Findlay on Thursday and concluding the week at Hillsdale on Saturday. Fans are not permitted at either game and the live stream will be available on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
