Arrows Fall at Home to Hillsdale on Thursday Evening

The Ursuline College basketball team fell to visiting Hillsdale College 81-69 on Thursday evening inside the Seidman Gymnasium.
 
Hillsdale built an early 10-4 lead in the first quarter before sophomore Sarah Lairson buried a triple from the top of the key to make it 10-7. Senior Paige Salisbury followed with a jumper to cut the deficit to one at 10-9 with 2:59 to play in the quarter.
 
After freshman Bekah Green picked up a steal and finished a layup to make it 13-11, the Arrows tied the game with another transition layup from Lairson to make it 13-13 with 1:39 to play. Freshman Jennah Taylor and junior Ky Crevison added baskets to close out the quarter a 6-0 run to give Ursuline a 17-13 lead after one.
 
Crevison opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and junior Julia Cardwell added a pair of free throws to extend the lead to nine at 22-13. Hillsdale battled back to within one at 27-26 before Cardwell scored again to push the lead back to three at 29-26 with 4:21 remaining in the half. Hillsdale got a three-pointer from Brittany Gray that just beat the buzzer to tie the game 33-33 at the half.
 
The two teams traded the lead several times in the opening minutes of the third quarter before Hillsdale took a brief lead at 41-39. After a jumper from junior Morgan Mattimore brought the Arrows back to within one at 51-50, the Chargers scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 56-50 after three.
 
Hillsdale went onto outscore Ursuline 25-19 in the final 10 minutes.
 
Ursuline shot 30-of-73 (41 percent) from the floor while Hillsdale went 33-of-66 (50 percent). The Arrows were 5-of-12 from the three-point line while the Chargers were 11-of-36 from deep. Hillsdale won the rebounding battle 45-26 including 16 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second chance points. Ursuline held a 38-28 advantage on points in the paint.
 
The Arrows were led by Salisbury who finished with 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Crevison finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting while Cardwell added 10 points and Mattimore finished with eight points and four rebounds.
 
Ursuline will play its home finale on Saturday at 2:00 PM when they host The University of Findlay at 2:00 PM.
