The Ursuline College basketball team held visiting Malone University to eight points in the third quarter and 30 percent shooting for the game in a 64-42 win on Monday afternoon.

The Arrows defensive effort started in the first quarter as they limited Malone to just nine points on 3-of-16 from the field in the first 10 minutes. Ursuline trailed 8-3 before a jumper and a three-pointer by junior
Ky Crevison tied the game 8-8 with 2:07 to play. Freshman
Jennah Taylor gave Ursuline its first lead at 10-9 late in the period.

Ursuline extended the lead early in the second quarter to 17-9 after a three-pointer from freshman
Kaylin Burdick. Malone closed the gap to 20-18 with under four minutes to play before halftime. The Arrows led 28-20 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Malone pulled within a basket at 30-28 with 8:29 remaining and the Arrows responded with an 20-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from junior
Julia Cardwell and another three from junior
Morgan Mattimore. A pair of free throws from Cardwell and a lay-up from Burdick made it 50-28.

Ursuline shot 25-of-64 (39 percent) from the field while Malone was 16-of-52 (30 percent). The Arrows were 5-of-14 from behind the arc while Malone was just 5-of-24. Ursuline was 9-of-11 from the free throw line and Malone was 5-of-6.

The 42-points were the fewest allowed in a game by Ursuline since joining NCAA Division II and the fewest allowed in program history since allowing 38 points against Carlow in January of 2011.

The Arrows scored 22 points off 17 Pioneers turnovers and had a 14-2 edge in fast break points.

Ursuline was led by Crevison who finished with 11 points while junior
Sarah Lairson and freshman
Jennah Taylor each had 10.

The Arrows will travel to Lake Erie College on Saturday, January 26 at 1:00 PM. Ursuline won the first match-up this season 78-73.
