The Ursuline College volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a straight-set win over visiting Notre Dame College on Friday afternoon in the Seidman Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ursuline won the first two sets by the same score of 25-23 in which both teams went back and forth over the course of multiple points.

The Arrows completed the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set. With the match tied 17-17 in the third, Ursuline rattled off the next five points to take a 22-17 lead before holding on for the win.

Ursuline hit .150 as a team while Notre Dame finished with a team hitting percentage of .159. The Arrows edged the Falcons 40-38 in kills and finished with a 7-2 advantage in service aces.

Vikki Henderson finished with a team-high 13 kills and 16 digs while fellow junior Angie Zamora had nine kills. Freshman
Nora Clink had nine kills in her first career match while freshman
Leah LaPinta added 12 digs in her Ursuline debut.

The Arrows finished with eight blocks as a team led by freshman
Jami Turay and Zamora who had two apiece.

THE SERIES

The win for Ursuline was its sixth all-time against Notre Dame and first since 2015.

Ursuline will travel to Clarion University next week as they will take part in the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament. The Arrows will play host Clarion on Friday at 11am and Concord University at 4:30pm.
