Arrows Win 12th Straight, Defeat Yellow Jackets 70-53

The Ursuline College basketball team made it 12 straight wins, tying their own school and G-MAC record with a 70-53 win over visiting Cedarville on Thursday evening.

The Arrows and Yellow Jackets traded baskets in the early going before a layup from sophomore Natalie Koenig extended the Ursuline lead to 7-3 and redshirt junior Laney Lewis followed with a three-pointer to make it 10-3 at the 6:29 mark.

Senior Erica Huber followed the Lewis three-pointer with one of her own to make it 13-5 before a mini-run by Cedarville made it a one possession game at 13-10 at the media timeout in the first. Back-to-back layups from junior Camryn Hill extended the Ursuline lead to 20-11 with under two minutes to play in the opening frame.

The Arrows held a 23-16 lead after one.

Cedarville pulled to within four at 24-20 midway through the second quarter after both teams struggled to score. Sophomore Brigan Wymer pushed the lead to seven after a three-pointer to end the offensive drought with just under four minutes to play before halftime.

The Yellow Jackets got a buzzer beating three-pointer from Ellie Juengel to end the half down 36-30.

The Ursuline defense took control in the third quarter as they outscored Cedarville 18-11 and built a 14 point lead half way through the quarter. In total, the Arrows limited the Yellow Jackets to just 23 second half points and led by as many as 19.

Ursuline has now won four-straight over Cedarville dating back to last season.

The Arrows shot 40 percent (26-for-65) from the field and went 9-for-21 from behind-the-arc while the Yellow Jackets shot just 32 percent (20-for-62) from the field and 8-for-23 from the arc. Ursuline outrebounded Cedarville 43-36 and forced 19 turnovers.

Lewis led Ursuline with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season which is tied for sixth in NCAA Division II. Wymer finished with 15 points on 5-for-7 from the floor including 3-for-4 from three. Huber and Koenig both finished in double-digits with 12 and 11 points respectively while Hill added eight points and a season-high 16 rebounds.
