Arrows Post 11th Straight Win 89-65 over Kentucky Wesleyan

The Ursuline College basketball team won its 11th straight game 89-65 on Saturday afternoon over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan.

The 11th straight win is one shy of tying their own G-MAC record from last season.

Ursuline ran out to a 7-2 lead after a three-pointer from senior Erica Huber and a layup from redshirt junior Laney Lewis less than two minutes into the contest. Kentucky Wesleyan battled back and cut the deficit to 14-10 with 6:39 to play in the first.

The Arrows held a 23-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Kentucky Wesleyan cut the deficit to 23-22 early in the second quarter before Ursuline answered with a 10-1 run paced by a couple of baskets from junior Camryn Hill and a jumper from sophomore Natalie Koenig. The Arrows led by 10 at 33-23 with just over five minutes to play in the half.

The Ursuline defense held the Panthers to just nine points in the second quarter as they built a 47-28 lead at the break.

Ursuline shot 48 percent (30-for-63) from the field and went 8-for-23 from behind the three-point line while shooting 21-for-24 from the free throw line. The Arrows also blocked a season-high 12 shots and outrebounded the Panthers 40-31. Kentucky Wesleyan shot 35 percent (24-for-68) from the floor and went 5-for-17 from three and were 12-for-17 from the line.

The Arrows were led by Huber who had her second-straight 20-plus point game finishing with 22 points on 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-8 from three. She was also 6-for-7 from the line and had five assists and four steals. Koenig finished with 17 points on 7-for-17 from the floor and had three assists. Hill and Lewis finished with 15 points each while Lewis had 13 rebounds and four blocks and Hill finished with eight boards and blocked a career-best seven shots.

Ursuline will remain home on Thursday as they host Cedarville in a re-match of a classic match-up between the two teams earlier this season. The Arrows edged out a 70-68 victory in Cedarville in late January in the first meeting between the two teams since the G-MAC Championship game last March.

Tip-off on Thursday is set for 5:30 PM and live video and stats will be provided at www.ursulinearrows.com.
