Arrows Open G-MAC Play with Win Over Lake Erie

The Ursuline College basketball team opened the 2017-18 Great Midwest schedule with a 70-58 win over visiting Lake Erie on Saturday afternoon.
 
Storm Out Early
 
The visiting Storm fell behind 5-2 in the early minutes but closed the opening quarter on a 15-6 run to take a 17-11 advantage.
 
Lake Erie was led by senior Kayla Gabor who went 4-for-7 in the quarter and had nine of the 17 points scored by the Storm.
 
Offensive Breakout
 
The Arrows offense got back on track in the second quarter behind the hot shooting hand of senior Laney Lewis who finished the frame with nine points on 4-for-7 from the floor and dished out three assists.
 
The Arrows shot 9-for-17 in the second quarter while picking up an assist on each of their nine field goals. Ursuline's defense stepped up in the second by limiting Lake Erie to 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting and forced four turnovers.
 
Ursuline held the lead at 33-31 at the intermission.
 
Sharing the Wealth
 
Ursuline had 22 assists on its 27 field goals in the game led by a career-best 10 assists from junior Paige Salisbury who also finished with 10 points on 4-for-9 from the floor. Earlier this season, the Arrows had 31 assists against West Liberty.
 
Second Half Strong
 
The Arrows shot 13-for-29 (45 percent) in the second half while limiting Lake Erie to 8-for-37 from the floor (22 percent) and just 1-for-8 from behind the three-point line. Ursuline shot 6-for-14 from deep in the second half after starting the game just 5-for-15.
 
Sophomore Ky Crevision led the Arrows by going 4-for-7 from behind-the-arc while four other players connected on at least one three-point attempt.
 
Spark from the Bench
 
Sophomore Julia Cardwell came in and made a huge contribution on both ends of the floor for Ursuline. She went 4-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-5 from three while scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds all in the second half.

The bench totaled 30 points on the afternoon for Ursuline. 
 
20+ Boards
 
Lewis finished with 21 rebounds to give her two straight-games and three overall this season with 20 plus rebounds. In her career, Lewis now had 36 double-doubles and has six games in her career with 20 or more rebounds.
 
Next Up
 
Ursuline will welcome Davis & Elkins to Pepper Pike on Wednesday, December 6 for a 5:30pm tip-off. The Arrows won all three meetings with the Senators including a 103-74 win in the First Round of the Great Midwest tournament last March.
