The Ursuline College basketball team opened up Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 92-72 win over visiting Davis & Elkins on Thursday evening.

The Arrows took an early 8-4 lead in the first quarter that was sparked by a three-pointer from sophomore
Brigan Wymer and a three-point play to start the game from senior
Erica Huber. Redshirt junior
Laney Lewis converted a layup to make it 12-4 with 6:20 to play in the first.

Senator senior Stephanie Wooten connected on a three-pointer to cut the lead to two at 16-14 with just under four minutes to play in the first. Ursuline, however, closed the quarter on a 11-4 run to take a 27-18 lead.

Leading 31-22 in the second quarter, Davis & Elkins once again sparked a run that saw the lead shrunk down to 31-29 with 5:46 to play before halftime. Lewis picked up back-to-back baskets to push the lead back out to six at 35-29 with just under four to play. The Senators did not go away and closed the half on a 6-2 run to make it a two-point game at the break.

The Arrows used a repeat third quarter from a year ago in West Virginia as they outscored Davis & Elkins 26-11 in the third to take a 63-46 lead after three.

The offense continued its efficiency in the fourth quarter as they Arrows put up 29-points as they posted their third highest scoring total of the year.

Ursuline shot 45 percent (33-for-74) as a team from the field and went 9-for-20 from three while the Senators shot 42 percent (26-for-62) and hit 9-for-28 from behind-the-arc. The Arrows forced 17 turnovers while committing just seven of their own.

The Arrows were paced by Lewis who finished with 24-points on 10-for-20 from the field and also had eight rebounds. Huber added 21 points on 7-for-13 from the field and was 4-for-7 from deep. She also had one steal to bring her career total to 175 which is the most in G-MAC history.

Wymer finished with 16 points and sophomore
Natalie Koenig added 13 points. Sophomore
Christiana Jefferson had six assists and zero turnovers off the bench for the Arrows while junior
Camryn Hill had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Ursuline will remain home on Saturday when they will host Alderson Broaddus in a 2:00 PM tip-off. The Arrows defeated the Battlers 96-66 in the last meeting in Pepper Pike and also win 98-79 in West Virginia.Â
