The Ursuline College volleyball team opened the season with a split on day one if the IUP Crimson Hawk Tournament hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The Arrows fell in the season opener 3-1 to the host IUP after taking the first set 26-24. The Crimson Hawks took the second set 25-23 followed by a 25-21 win in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth.
Senior
Makayla Windau led the Arrows with 17 kills followed by fellow senior
Emily Adkinson who had 10 and freshman
Victoria Henderson who also had 10 kills in her first-ever collegiate match.
Adkinson added two blocks as did sophomore
Katelyn Selleny who also had 35 assists and a team-high 18 digs.
In the second match of the day, Ursuline rebounded to defeat Roberts Wesleyan (NY.) 3-1. The Arrows took the opening set 26-24 and followed that with a 25-18 win in the second set. Roberts Wesleyan answered with a 25-20 win in the third before the Arrows closed out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth.
Adkinson finished with a match-high 15 kills and Henderson added 13 while Windau finished with 12 for the Arrows.
Selleny finished with 40 assists in the second match and freshman
Jill Morrow added a team-high five blocks.
The Arrows will play two more matches on Saturday beginning with Holy Family at 10:00am followed by a match with West Liberty at 3:00pm.
