The Ursuline College lacrosse team won the first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship with a 16-11 victory over Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon.
The Arrows wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when junior
Maddie Kipp went right down the middle of the field and found the back of the net just :13 seconds into the game to give Ursuline a 1-0 lead.
Less than a minute later, freshman
Hayley Mazreku added a goal to make it 2-0 and fellow freshman
Abigail Neeley scored to make it 3-0 less than seven minutes into the contest.
After Alderson Broaddus cut it to 3-1, junior
Sarah Kiefer and Kipp scored a pair of goals to make it 5-2.
Late in the first half, the Battlers scored to make it 6-4 but Neeley responded with a score to make it 7-4 and start a run for Ursuline that led to a 10-5 lead at the break.
The Arrows extended out to a 13-7 lead with 15 minutes to play in the game and sophomore
Cydney Bartlett, Neeley and Kiefer added three straight goals to push the Arrows lead to 16-11.
Ursuline outshot Alderson Broaddus 42-27 in the game and forced 19 turnovers. The Arrows were led by Kipp who finished with five goals while Kiefer added four and Neeley three.

Ed Karasek was named G-MAC Coach of the Year while Bartlett was named Player of the Year and Mazreku was selected as Freshman of the Year.Â
