The Ursuline College basketball team took possession of first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a 73-62 road win over Cedarville in front of a crowd of 1,913 on Saturday afternoon.

The Arrows (21-3, 10-2) got an early jumper from redshirt sophomore
Laney Lewis that sparked an 8-0 run to start the game. A pair of free throws by freshman
Natalie Koenig made it 10-2 before the Yellow Jackets offense got started. Cedarville cut the deficit to 12-7 with 3:50 to play in the first. Ursuline answered the run and held a 20-13 advantage after one.

The two top teams in the G-MAC traded baskets in the second quarter and Cedarville got a big three-pointer from Abby Wolford to pull within two at 27-25 with 5:30 to play in the first half. The Arrows answered right back with a 6-0 run to build the lead to 33-25 and would never trail in the half or the game.

The third quarter saw the league's two best defenses lock in over the next 10 minutes of play. Cedarville outscored Ursuline 13-11 in the quarter but a big layup by sophomore
Camille Gist extended the Arrows lead to 52-47 late in the period.

The fourth quarter saw a resurgence of the Arrows offense after freshman
Christiana Jefferson connected on a 15-foot jumper to put Ursuline in front 62-57 with 5:10 to play in the game. Junior
Erica Huber added a layup to extend the lead to seven with under four minutes to play.

Kayla Linkous hit a big three-pointer with 2:30 to play to make it 66-60 in favor of Ursuline but the Arrows answered right back with a jumper by Lewis to help seal the victory.

Ursuline was led by Lewis who finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds on 7-for-9 shooting and also had two blocks and three steals. Huber added 16 points and was 10-for-11 from the free throw line and Koenig finished with 10 points.

The Arrows shot 48 percent (23-for-48) from the field and were 5-for-17 from the three-point line while the Yellow Jackets shot 32 percent (22-for-69) from the field and were 8-for-21 from beyond the arc. Ursuline was 22-for-29 from the free throw line and were slightly edged in the rebounding battle 40-37.
Ursuline has now won a school-record eight straight games surprassing their seven game winning streak from earlier this season. It is also the first-win in program history over Cedarville.Â

Ursuline will now travel to Elkins, West Virginia on Thursday to take on the Senators. The Arrows won the previous meeting 91-55 on January 30. With a pair of wins in West Virginia, Ursuline would host the G-MAC tournament to take place beginning March 3.Â
