Arrows Cruise to 77-53 Road Win at Clarion Wednesday

The Ursuline College basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 77-53 road win at Clarion University on Wednesday evening.
 
Ursuline got off to a slow start offensively and trailed 8-4 with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter but used an 8-4 run of its own capped by a three from sophomore Natalie Koenig to take a 12-10 lead. Clarion ended the first quarter up 14-13.
 
The Arrows used a 7-0 spurt in the second quarter after the game was tied 19-19 to take a 26-19 lead and a layup from junior Camryn Hill pushed the lead to double figures at 33-21 with just over three minutes to play in the half.
 
Ursuline outscored Clarion 22-10 in the second quarter to help build a 35-24 lead at the intermission.
 
The Arrows defense once again turned up the intensity in the third quarter holding Clarion to 12 points in the third
 
Ursuline has now won 15 straight regular season games and 11 in a row on the road dating back to 70-66 loss last November at Tiffin.
 
The Arrows shot 48 percent (29-for-60) from the floor and went 8-for-24 from behind the three-point line. Ursuline also went 11-for-18 from the free throw line and were out rebounded 48-36. Ursuline forced 17 turnovers while committing 11 of its own.
 
Koenig led all scorers with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting including 4-for-5 from three. She also had three assists and three steals. Redshirt junior Laney Lewis finished one assist shy of a triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists. She also had three steals and has now posted a double-double in each of the first three games this season.
 
Senior Erica Huber finished with 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting, including 3-for-8 from behind the arc. Sophomore Brigan Wymer added 14 points on 6-for-12 from the floor.
 
Ursuline will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon against Saginaw Valley (MI.). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM and can be viewed live at ursulinearrows.com.
