Arrows Roll by Bulldogs Sunday Afternoon

The Ursuline College basketball team made it two straight road victories to start the season after defeating Ferris State 91-61 on day two of the Bulldog Classic.

After the host Bulldogs hit a three-pointer to start the game, Ursuline answered with a 11-0 run capped by a three-point shot by senior Erica Huber and a layup from sophomore Natalie Koenig.

Ferris State pulled back to within four at 11-7 midway through the quarter, but another 6-0 run by the Arrows sparked by a pair of layups from sophomore Brigan Wymer made it 17-7 late in the frame.

Ursuline built a 19-12 advantage at the end of one.

The second quarter proved to be the difference in the contest as once again Ursuline started on an 8-0 run capped by a Wymer jump shot to make it 28-12 just three minutes in. Wymer buried a three-ball with 1:49 to play and Huber connected on a pair from the charity stripe to build the lead to 23 at the break.

In the second half, the Arrows offense picked up right where it left off in the third quarter as Koenig drilled a three to start the half to build the lead to 48-22. Junior Camryn Hill added another three to make it 51-24 a little over three minutes into the third. Despite the scoring being 21-21 in the quarter, Ursuline still held a 66-43 advantage going to the final quarter.

The 91-points were the most points scored by Ursuline since last February when they scored 98 against Alderson Broaddus.

The Arrows shot 44 percent (30-for-69) from the floor and were 12-for-34 (35 percent) from behind the arc. Ursuline also went 19-for-22 from the free throw line and won the rebounding battle 47-40. Ferris State shot 35 percent (23-for-65) from the field and were 6-for-21 (29 percent) from the three-point line. The Arrows forced 21 turnovers while committing 14.

Huber led all scorers with 24 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor including 3-for-5 from behind the arc. She was also a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line and pulled down 11 rebounds and had dished out four assists. The 24 points were the most scored since last December when she poured in 25 points against Ohio Christian.

The Arrows finished with three others in double figures led by Wymer who finished with 17 points on 7-for-12 from the floor. Redshirt junior Laney Lewis who finished with her second straight double-double by grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 11. Fellow junior Camryn Hill had 11 points and eight boards. Freshman Carly Koncz added nine points on three triple hits off the bench.

Ursuline will travel to Clarion on Wednesday evening to take on the Golden Eagles at 5:30 PM.
