The Ursuline College basketball team improved to 13-2 on the season and 3-1 in the G-MAC with an 84-53 road win over Ohio Valley on Saturday afternoon in Vienna, West Virginia.
After the two teams traded baskets in the early going, the Arrows ran out to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter after redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis (Lynchburg/Lynchburg Clay) capped a run with a three-pointer. Sophomore Camryn Hill (Strongsville/Strongsville) followed with a three of her own to build the lead to 16-6 with 4:12 to play in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, after Ohio Valley closed to within seven at 23-16 freshman Natalie Koenig (Waueson/Waueson) connected on back-to-back jumpers and Lewis buried another triple to make it 35-20 late in the second quarter. Koenig drilled another jumper with :12 seconds remaining in the half and the Arrows went to the half with a 38-25 lead.
Ursuline used a strong defensive effort in the third quarter to hold Ohio Valley to just 13 points in the frame and built the lead to as many as 25 at 59-34 after another jumper by Koenig with 1:45 to play in the third.
The Arrows never trailed in the game and led by as many 31 points in the fourth quarter which ended being the final margin of victory.
Ursuline was led by Lewis who finished with 18 points on 6-for-7 from the field and was also 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line. Lewis also had 16 rebounds, four assists and blocked a season-high seven shots which is the most by any player in a game in the G-MAC this season.
Junior Erica Huber finished with 16 points and dished out six assists. Huber surpassed Trevecca Nazarene's Kaci Britt Bell for third in the conference all-time in scoring with 905 career points.
Hill finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season which is two behind the NCAA leader. Koenig finished with 17 points on 7-for-13 from the floor in 29 minutes of play.
The Arrows shot 52 percent (32-for-62) from the field and were 45 percent (9-for-20) from the three-point line. Ursuline won the rebounding battle 46-38 and forced 13 turnovers. The Arrows finished with 17 assists on 32 field goals.
Ursuline will be idle until January 16 when they return home for an early season G-MAC showdown with conference leading Cedarville. The tipoff is set for 2:00 PM and will be streamed live on the UC Sports Network.
