The Ursuline College basketball team made it five wins in a row and seven out of their first eight with a 71-50 win over visiting Seton Hill University on Saturday afternoon.
The Arrows picked up their eighth win of the season which matches their win total from 2014-15 and also the fifth straight win ties the record for most wins in a row in program history.
Ursuline got out to a quick start on the first two possessions after sophomore Camryn Hill (Strongsville/Strongsville) got a layup and freshman Brigan Wymer (Delta/Delta) buried a three to make it 5-0. The Arrows built an 8-4 advantage but the Griffins closed the quarter on a 8-5 run to cut the lead to 13-12 after one.
The Arrows built their largest lead of the first half at 31-25 after a Hill jumper with 2:21 remaining in the half. Ursuline took a 34-31 lead into the break.
The second half started with freshman Christiana Jefferson (Toledo/Toledo Notre Dame) draining a three-pointer to make it 37-31 and another three by junior Erica Huber (Anna/Anna) built the Ursuline lead to nine at 42-33 with 6:29 remaining in the third. Ursuline built the lead to 11 but Seton Hill once again fought back to pull within five at 44-39 after three.
Ursuline's offense woke up in the fourth quarter as the Arrows started the quarter on an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 57-42 with 6:22 to play. After a three-point play by Hill on a layup and a foul the lead extended to 20 at 64-44
The 27-point fourth quarter was the second highest total in a quarter this year by Ursuline, just one shy of the 28-point first quarter against Lake Erie in the home opener on November 17.
Ursuline hit a season-high 12 three-pointers (12-for-27) on the afternoon and shot 38 percent from the floor (24-for-63). The Griffins shot an identical 38 percent (24-for-63) but were just 1-for-11 from deep. Ursuline forced 22 turnovers and only had 12 of their own.
The Arrows were paced by Hill's fifth double-double of the year as she put up 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Hill was 9-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-4 from beyond-the-arc. Wymer added 16 points and dished out four assists while picking up three steals. Jefferson finished with eight points and six assists for Ursuline.
Ursuline will be off until Saturday, December 19 when they will host the University of Northwest Ohio at 2:00 PM. Â
