ELKINS, WV.-- For the fourth consecutive year the Ursuline College soccer team will play for the G-MAC Championship after a win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon. The Arrows advanced with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks after two overtimes left the game still tied 1-1.
The Arrows came out aggressive right from the kick-off and took the lead in the 21st minute when freshman Aline Czaplicki found the back of the net for the fifth time this season to make it 1-0. Czaplicki was named to the All-Freshman team as well as All-Conference Second team in the G-MAC earlier this week.
Kentucky Wesleyan answered back late in the first half when freshman Breigh Haase scored to tie the game 1-1 at the break.
The two teams battled for the next 45 minutes of regulation as well as two 10 minute overtime periods without a goal setting up penalty kicks to decide the match.
After successful PK's form junior Cassie Cripe and sophomores Emily Justus and Rachel Strahorn followed by a Kentucky Wesleyan miss left Ursuline with a 3-1 advantage. Senior Vanessa Consiglio toed the line and calmly knocked in the game-winning kick to send the Arrows back to the G-MAC Championship for the third straight year.
The Arrows outshot The Panthers 30-11 in the game.
Ursuline and Cedarville played two times throughout the regular season with neither time getting a victory. The game in Pepper Pike ended in a 1-1 tie while the Arrows drew a tie at Cedarville on the last day of the regular season to secure the number three seed in the G-MAC Tournament. The Arrows are the defending G-MAC Tournament champions after winning in 2014.
The match is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon from Davis & Elkins and live stats and video will be provided. The winner of the match will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins next week.
