CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Ursuline College soccer team lost a heartbreaker in overtime, 2-1, to Davis & Elkins College in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Match on Saturday (Nov. 9) afternoon.

The Arrows finish the season with a record of 12-8-1 while Davis & Elkins wraps up the year at 12-7-1. Ursuline won three straight entering the title match, including two wins over Trevecca Nazarene University and a hard-fought 1-0 win over regular season champion Cedarville University in the semifinals.

Ursuline led 1-0 after G-MAC Freshman of the Year Cassie Cripe scored at the 14:28 mark. Sophomore Vanessa Consiglio crossed the ball in from the left and junior Paige Rowan took a whack at it. Her shot caromed off the post and Cripe was there to clean up the mess.

Jason Kubbins' club held that lead for more than 33 minutes of game time until Laia Dordas scored her ninth goal of the season just 2:53 into the second period. Neither team could jump out in front over the last 42 minutes and change of regulation despite some extremely close chances.

The action went back and forth in the extra period but 5:46 into overtime, Ursuline was the victim of an own goal. Freshman goalie Helen Jazzar batted the ball away and the ball bounced off the head of an Ursuline defender and into the right corner of the goal.

UC outshot the Senators, 11-9. Jazzar made three saves, one fewer than her counterpart Ashley Winkelspecht.

Ursuline will lose a tremendous senior class but its top three scorers will return next season. Of UC's six all-conference selections and three honorable mention picks, none were seniors.
