Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College volleyball team earned its first victory of the 2026 season over the weekend at the Wheeling Alumni/Hall of Fame Tournament, defeating Point Park, 3-0, before battling through three additional matches against UIndy, Wheeling and California (Pa.).
Ursuline 3, Point Park 0
The Arrows (1-4) opened the tournament with a strong three-set victory over Point Park (0-4), taking the match by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21.
Ursuline and Point Park traded momentum throughout the opening set before the Arrows secured the 25-23 win. UC carried that momentum into the second set, pulling away for a 25-19 victory. The Arrows completed the sweep in the third set, closing out the match with a 25-21 win.
Ursuline held a .119-.030 advantage in attack percentage and finished with a 34-28 edge in kills. The Arrows also led in aces, 7-4, and blocks, 9-7.
Ellie Zoeckler and Kimora Hansbourgh paced the offense with nine kills apiece. Mya Jackson led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while Ariella Keys and Hansbourgh recorded five and four blocks, respectively. Sophia Serrano finished with 12 assists, while Annie Quinlan added 11.
UIndy 3, Ursuline 0
Ursuline faced an undefeated UIndy (6-0) squad in its second match of the tournament, falling in three sets, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-14.
The Arrows (1-5) were unable to overcome the Greyhounds' balanced attack, as UIndy held the advantage in each statistical category.
Zoeckler once again led Ursuline with nine kills, while Serrano recorded 12 assists and Jackson added 11 digs.
Wheeling 3, Ursuline 0
The Arrows (1-6) continued tournament play against host Wheeling (3-3), battling in all three sets before falling 25-21, 25-19 and 25-17.
The teams were evenly matched at the service line and at the net, with Wheeling holding narrow 7-6 advantages in both aces and blocks. The Cardinals' biggest advantage came offensively, where they finished with a 39-26 edge in kills.
Zoeckler led the Arrows with six kills and added a team-high four aces. Serrano recorded 13 assists, while Jackson turned in another strong defensive performance with 17 digs.
California (Pa.) 3, Ursuline 2
Ursuline (1-7) closed the tournament with a hard-fought five-set battle against California (Pa.) (1-5).
The Arrows fell behind by two sets before mounting a comeback. Ursuline built a 20-14 lead in the third set, but the Vulcans battled back to tie the frame at 20-20. The Arrows responded under pressure, scoring the final five points to claim the set, 25-23.
The fourth set featured another back-and-forth battle, with the Arrows again coming through late to earn a 25-22 victory and force a decisive fifth set. California responded in the final frame, taking the set 15-8 to secure the 3-2 victory.
Zoeckler turned in a match-high 19 kills and added 16 digs. Jackson delivered a record-setting defensive performance, breaking the Ursuline program record with 39 digs in a single match. Serrano also posted a strong performance with 26 assists.
Despite the 1-3 record, Zoeckler's standout weekend earned her a spot on the seven-player All-Tournament Team.
