Arrows Fall to Lake Erie in G-MAC Match

Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College volleyball team battled Lake Erie College in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action Tuesday night, but the Arrows ultimately fell 3-0. 

Ursuline (1-11, 0-3 G-MAC) dropped three competitive sets to the Storm, falling 28-30, 22-25 and 15-25. 

Lake Erie (4-5, 2-1 G-MAC) gradually built a 17-11 lead in the opening set before the teams began trading short runs. Ursuline remained within striking distance and used a 5-1 run to even the score at 23-23. The teams continued to trade points in a back-and-forth battle, with neither side able to pull away. Lake Erie eventually scored the final two points to take the marathon set, 30-28. 

The Arrows came out strong in the second set, building a 13-8 advantage. The Storm responded with seven consecutive points to take the lead. Ursuline continued to battle as the teams exchanged rallies, but Lake Erie closed the set with a 4-1 run to take a 25-22 victory and a 2-0 match lead. 

Lake Erie held a slim 7-6 advantage early in the third set before putting together an 8-0 run to take control. The Arrows continued to battle but were unable to close the gap, as the Storm claimed the third set, 25-15, to complete the sweep. 

Ursuline posted a .221 attack percentage compared to Lake Erie's .293. The Storm held a 57-44 advantage in kills, while the Arrows committed fewer attack errors, 13-14. 

Lake Erie also held the edge in service aces, 6-3, assists, 48-39, and digs, 69-59. Ursuline narrowly held the advantage at the net, recording four blocks to Lake Erie's three. 

Zoeckler led the Arrows offensively with 16 kills. Ariella Keys added seven kills without an attack error, finishing with a .538 attack percentage. 

Vada Belt directed the Ursuline offense with 18 assists, while Sophia Serrano contributed 15 assists. Mya Jackson anchored the defensive effort with 19 digs, while Zoeckler added 14 digs to record a double-double. 

Up next: The Arrows return to action Friday at 6 p.m. when they host Findlay in G-MAC action at The Jane and Lee Seidman Gymnasium.
